The Union of Registrar and Notary Workers (STRN) reported this Friday that as of Tuesday, “computer restrictions continue”, making it difficult to access applications that support various registrations: property, civil, commercial, automobile and civil.
In a conversation with the Lusa agency, STRN President Armenio Maximino said that usually when restrictions arise in the IT systems of the courts – on Tuesday the Citius platform was unavailable, which led to the postponement of trials and proceedings, the same situation occurs in the registries, despite the fact that that the IT platform is different.
The explanation, he added, would be in problems that affect the servers serving both platforms (courts and registries).
In addition to the limitations and difficulties described, there are also problems accessing email sent by users of various registry services, he said.
According to Armenio Maximino, there are times when “you can’t work” and IT restrictions are “more and more frequent.”
“This scenario is repeating itself more and more often, thereby increasing the difficulties that workers in the industry already face on a daily basis, and which causes serious harm to citizens and companies who, in these circumstances, are even more limited in access to basic services, such as those available in registries and other registration services,” reads a STRN message sent to Lusa.
The union recalls that registries and other registration services are subject to severe and unsatisfactory working conditions, a situation it says it has repeatedly condemned, and it is clear that the “seriousness of substandard working conditions” is spreading throughout the country.
According to STRN, the dangerous working conditions these workers face are an affront to human rights and respect for those who play a vital role in society.
“These unspeakable and unacceptable working conditions have a serious impact on the physical and mental health of all those subjected to these deplorable working conditions, which inevitably affects productivity, quality of work, motivation and the balance between social and professional life,” states STRN.
In view of all this, NTRN demands from the government and IRN “immediate action to change this situation”, stating that it is necessary to guarantee decent working conditions, namely “improving existing working conditions in enterprises (air conditioning, general cleaning throughout the supply and cleaning of premises and furniture on a regular basis), recruiting missing human resources and providing the necessary equipment so that workers can perform their duties efficiently.
NTRN points to staffing shortages of 249 registrars and 1,522 registrars as one way to “rectify the disastrous and unsustainable situation and ensure the availability of essential services to all citizens, regardless of their location.”
“Unfortunately, in addition to the situations already reported by STRN, in Lagoa (Azores), Gois, Penamacor and Tomar these are not the only cases in the country.
Many other services are facing serious situations of human resource shortage which are alarmingly affecting their normal functioning and which need to be urgently reported to reverse this unspeakable catastrophic situation they find themselves in,” concluded STR.
