Doctors from Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region began a two-day strike this Wednesday, demanding an “effective response” to the union’s list of demands and an offer of a decent wage scale commensurate with their training.
The regional strike, organized by the Independent Union of Doctors (SIM), which began at 00:00 Wednesday and will end at 24:00 Thursday, covers the Beatriz Angelo hospitals in Loures, Vila Franca de Xira, García de Orta, in Almada, Dr. José de Almeida, in Cascais and the hospital centers of Barreiro Montijo, Setúbal and the Lisbon Psychiatric Hospital,
The strike also affected doctors at the Gama Pinto Institute of Ophthalmology (Lisbon), IPO in Lisbon and the sports medicine department of the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth (IPDJ), as well as groups of medical centers (ACES) in Cascais, Loures/Odivelas, Tagus Estuary, Almada/Seixal, Arco Ribeirinho and Arrabida.
