This Wednesday morning, the Aveiro Court began the trial of sixteen defendants following the mega-operation “Teia Durada” carried out by the Aveiro PSP, on suspicion of more than 35 violent robberies, mostly against elderly victims. Thefts and robberies in nursing homes in 2022 brought in more than 600 thousand euros in just six months.
Operation Golden Web was the result of an investigation carried out by the Criminal Investigation Department of the PSP Aveiro, which ended in July 2022 with the arrest of seven people.
During the operation, dozens of searches were carried out in houses, commercial establishments and vehicles in several municipalities of the districts of Aveiro, Coimbra and Porto, 28 weapons (including 12 firearms), hundreds of cartridges and ammunition, and seven cars were seized. and about 300 grams of drugs (hashish and marijuana).
Hundreds of stolen items were also confiscated, including gold coins, dozens of electrical and other construction tools, various agricultural support equipment, construction materials, large and small household appliances, electronic devices and food, as well as approximately 200 thousand euros. bills.
The defendants are responsible for the crimes of robbery, attempted and completed theft, resisting and coercing an employee, driving without a lawful license, possession of a prohibited weapon, entering a place not open to the public, causing damage and receiving.
Of the 16 accused, 14 were present at the beginning of the trial. In front of a group of judges at the Aveiro court, everyone remained silent.
