The death toll in Libya may reach 20 thousand people

The death toll in the city of Derna in eastern Libya after flooding could reach 20 thousand, the publication reports. Sky Newsin which the ruler of that city is quoted.

The estimate was based on the number of areas destroyed by the disaster.

Storm Daniel hit eastern Libya on Sunday afternoon and killed at least 5,300 people. There are still 30 thousand homeless, seven thousand wounded and at least ten thousand missing.

Two dams collapsed on Monday, releasing a total of 33 million cubic meters of water and leaving entire residential areas behind, prompting local authorities to set up a field hospital.
