There’s a new bookshop in Lisbon that sells only women’s books.

Livraria Greta, dedicated exclusively to works by women, opened its doors at the beginning of September in the Anjos district of Lisbon.

A project by Lorena Travassos, a photographer and professor of visual culture/photography, the bookstore’s shelves feature “books written by women (cis and trans)” from a variety of fields (fiction, comics, children’s books, history, gender studies, poetry). , as well as magazines, zines and graphics.

Virginia Woolf, Clarice Lispector, Agustina Bessa-Luis and Natalia Correia are some of the authors featured in the showcase, which opens Greta’s official page, which also features feminist and “queer” publications, as well as a children’s book section.

The priority is to “make accessible books that have been published by small presses or through self-publishing and that are therefore not available in large bookstores,” the page says.

The goal is to reflect “current gender issues” and “make available the high-quality publications that are being produced.” [sobre o tema]but there’s no room.”

The specialty bookstore will host talks, workshops and book launches, billing itself as “a safe place to meet and discuss topics relevant to LGBTQ+ communities, immigrants and people of African descent from around the world.”

The literature for sale will be written exclusively by women, but the space is open to anyone seeking a “more just and ethical world.”

In addition to being a bookstore, Greta is also a “club” in which, through an annual subscription, its members can receive books at home – in some forms chosen under the curation of Lorena Travassos herself, PhD in Communication Sciences and specialized in colonial archives and gender studies .
