Authorities will investigate the dam collapse that caused the disaster in Libya

Libyan authorities have launched an investigation into the collapse of two dams, which caused devastating floods in Libya, especially in the city of Derna, where bodies continue to be found, killing more than 11,000 people.

Libya’s Prosecutor General al-Sedik al-Sour said prosecutors would investigate the collapse of two dams built in the 1970s and the allocation of funds to maintain them, as well as probe local authorities in the city of Derna and previous governments.

“I assure citizens that whoever commits mistakes or negligence, the prosecutor’s office will definitely take strict measures, open a criminal case against them and send them to court,” he said at a press conference in the city of Derna, according to local press reports today.
