PSP arrested a 37-year-old man for allegedly committing several thefts from commercial establishments, public buildings and bicycles, especially electric ones, causing social anxiety, police said on Wednesday.
The police said in a statement that the suspect was arrested on Monday based on an off-site arrest warrant and a search and arrest warrant issued by a judicial authority.
According to the PSP, crimes committed in the city of Aveiro using “escalation and burglary” have been causing “feelings of insecurity and social anxiety” for some time.
“The amount of theft amounted to about 2,600 euros, material damage amounted to about 350 euros,” the same note says.
During the police action, according to the PSP, they managed to seize five cash register boxes and some parts of a moped, as well as seize a firearm (shotgun), several items of clothing and tools.
The accused attended his first court appearance on Tuesday, having been released under compulsory detention three times a week at police stations in the area where he lives.
