The Judicial Police (PJ) arrested a man suspected of setting fire to a forest on August 27 in Pacos de Ferreira, Porto district, police said this Friday.
In its statement, the joint venture explained that the fire was started “by direct flame and a homemade device thrown into the forest near the roadside.”
According to him, the motives for the crime are still unknown.
“These facts caused great social anxiety among the residents of the area, who feared that the fire would affect them and also endanger a large forest area, but this was not achieved on a large scale due to early warning and the rapid intervention of firefighters. These actions did not allow the fire to take on other dimensions, which even in this case required long-term intervention,” the joint venture emphasized.
The detainee, 25 years old, living at this address and having no criminal record, will be brought to the judicial authority for the first judicial interrogation and the application of coercive measures.
