This Saturday, Portugal’s Raquel Brito won a gold medal in the -48kg category at the European Open Judo Championships in Prague, her fourth international medal this year.
The 21-year-old started with a win over Belgium’s Jente Verstraeten, followed by triumphs over Austria’s Jacqueline Springer and Brazil’s Alexia Nascimento before beating Spain’s Mireia Rodriguez Salvador in the final.
This is world number 48 ranked Raquel Brito’s fourth medal in this category, following gold at the European Open in Gaya, silver in Madrid and bronze in Rome.
Exempted from the first round in the 73kg division, Telmo Gomez reached the third round, in which he was eliminated by Italian Gabriele Sulli after forcing himself on Britain’s Oliver Short.
In the same category, Joao Crisostomo in his debut match, in the second round, lost to Georgian Onisa Dzaganishvili.
In the 57kg weight category, Ana Agulhas beat Spain’s Isaskun Ballesteros Gonzalez in the first round, but was subsequently defeated by Italy’s Anita Cantini.
