Adegi predicts that Gipuzkoa’s economy will grow by 2% in 2023, without ruling out stagnation in the 2nd semester

The Gipuzkoa business association, Adegi, maintains its forecast that the Gipuzkoan economy will grow around “a 1.5 or 2% this year”, with the creation of more than 4,000 jobs, although it does not rule out “stagnation” for the second semester due to high inflation.

In a press conference held in Donostia / San Sebastián, the president of Adegi, Eduardo Junkera, accompanied by the general director of the Guipuzcoan employers’ association, José Miguel Ayerza, and its head of competitiveness and innovation, Patxi Sasigain, gave an account of the main data from the last Situation Survey carried out by the association in September.

According to this survey, “a moderate deterioration of the trustsales and orders, while for employment the prospects are better”, with a forecast of creating a net average this year of more than 4,000 net salaried jobs in Gipuzkoa. Thus, 91% of the companies surveyed foresee maintain or create employment.

Junkera has appealed for “caution” in this “uncertain macroeconomic environmentmarked by economic slowdown and the elevated inflation“, in which “stagnation in the second half of this year cannot be ruled out.” However, Adegi maintains his forecast that the Gipuzkoa economy “will grow between 1.5% and 2% this year, less than the half that of last year,” he noted.

Among the top three business concerns They include, in this order, “the high labor costs and salary increases, the difficulty in hiring qualified personnel and the concern about the supply and price of raw materials.”
