This Saturday, the GNR confiscated nine vehicles with altered original characteristics and lack of compulsory liability insurance during the concentration of illegal racing in the municipality of Seixal (Setúbal), namely about 50 vehicles.
In a statement, the Setúbal Territorial Command said the seizure occurred during a police operation to check roads to prevent illegal racing and clear public roads.
Soldiers from the Setúbal Road Squad of the PPR went early on Saturday to the Seixal Industrial Park, where there was a concentration of illegal racing involving about 50 vehicles, security forces explained.
According to the same information note, the event took place without any licensing, which resulted in traffic restrictions and jeopardized the safety of the large number of spectators present.
During the operation, several vehicles and motorcycles were inspected, 42 drivers were detained and examined, 35 reports of administrative offenses were drawn up, nine vehicles were seized due to changes in characteristics and the lack of compulsory civil liability insurance.
As part of the action, the SNR also indicated, 13 protocols of administrative offenses were drawn up for the re-equipment of vehicles, for the presence of vehicles with changes in their design characteristics and for the presence of vehicles with characteristics not registered in the Unified Automobile Document.
Two administrative violation reports were also drawn up for failure to comply with a mandatory periodic inspection, two administrative violation reports for failure to use a seat belt, and two administrative violation reports for failure to obey a prescribed stop sign.
As part of the suit, three infringement notices were also issued due to the vehicles being driven with tires below legal limits.
The action took place with the reinforcement of the Almada territorial detachment and the public order team from the GNR intervention unit.
In a statement, the GNR said that with these actions it aims to prevent and suppress phenomena that jeopardize the road safety of everyone using public roads.
And he adds that operations of this nature aim to raise awareness of compliance with regulations governing the admission of vehicles, components and systems or accessories, ensuring that the handling of these vehicles is carried out in a safe and controlled manner.
