The PSD president criticized the “increasing tax burden” in the 2024 state budget and accused António Costo of being “the biggest tax collector in Portuguese history of all time.”
“This budget gives the impression that he is distributing funds with one hand, but with both hands he will do what Dr. Antonio Costa has become a great expert in, a great example. António Costa is the greatest tax collector in Portuguese history. all the time,” Luis Montenegro said Friday night.
In a speech in Amaranta, Porto district, during a dinner marking the 10th anniversary of the PSD/SDS coalition’s conquest of local power, the leader of the Social Democrats admitted that in next year’s draft state budget “the IRS will have a small and very limited reduction” but “it doesn’t even reach the Portuguese middle class.”
Luis Montenegro confirmed that the budget will increase tax revenues and the tax burden in general.”
“On the surface this is a very organized budget, but it does not provide the Portuguese with a quality of life,” he said, predicting that with the budget presented by the PS government, Portugal will “again have a year in which the country’s main problems will not have a solution.”
