PSD President Luis Montenegro said this Saturday that there is currently no electoral coalition “on the table” to take part in next year’s European elections, confirming that his party will compete with its own lists and a “strong program”.
“No electoral coalition is being discussed in the European elections. We are determined to present our candidacy with a strong list and a strong program,” he said in statements to journalists. Montenegro spoke in Pacos de Ferreira, where this Saturday he completed a series of visits to several municipalities in the Porto district as part of the “Sentir Portugal” initiative.
The PSD President was commenting on a statement he made on Friday evening in Amarante, the municipality led by the PSD/SDS coalition since 2013, when in his speech he addressed the Christian Democratic leaders present, making it clear that the party is the “preferred partner” for coalitions .
“What does it mean [essa declaração] This is what we assume: we govern many city councils, many parish councils and two regional governments with the help of CDS, so it is a matter of respect for our preferred partner, because it is with them that we currently have responsibility for governance throughout our territory , starting from a municipal and regional point of view,” he said this Saturday.
The leader of the Social Democrats also recalled that the PSD, since April 25, “in three periods of government was associated with the SDS, with the Democratic Alliance of Francisco Sa Caneiro and Francisco Pinto Balsemana, then with Durau Barroso and later also with Pedro Passos Coelho.”
