The Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) this Sunday placed five areas in the south of the country under an orange warning due to the passage of the Bernard Depression, warning of sometimes heavy rainfall.
According to the IPMA, in Évora from 12:00 to 18:00 this Sunday, “shower, sometimes heavy, may be accompanied by thunderstorms and strong gusts of wind.”
In Faro, the warning is in effect from 9:00 to 18:00 and also applies to rough seas and wind gusts of up to 100 kilometers per hour.
In Setúbal, a similar warning remains in effect from 10:00 to 16:00, while in Beja the warning is in effect from 9:00 to 18:00.
There is an orange warning in Portalegre from 12:00 to 18:00.
The IPMA has also issued yellow warnings for Santarem, Lisbon and Castelo Branco due to rainfall.
According to the IPMA, an orange warning is issued whenever a “moderate to high risk weather situation” occurs. A yellow warning applies to “risk situations for certain activities depending on the meteorological situation.”
