The North American airline United will have a new route between Faro and New York/Newark from May 2024, the President of the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA) announced to Lusa this Thursday.
The new air service will have a frequency of four flights per week and will be the first route to connect the Algarve with the United States, a market that Andre Gomez says is growing significantly in the region.
In a conversation with Lusa, the official said that globally, the North American tourism market grew by 29.3% in August compared to last year and by 40% compared to 2019.
“This is extremely positive for the region’s expectations, given the impact this market is already having on the Algarve, both in terms of tourism and thanks to the presence of investment from major funds and brands,” he said.
According to Andre Gomes, the route reflects the work of the RTA, Turismo de Portugal and Faro Airport, which have joined forces to attract airlines interested in connecting the Algarve and the United States.
