A man was killed and a young woman was seriously injured this Saturday in an accident between two vehicles on the road connecting Funchal with the parish of Curral das Freiras in the municipality of Camara de Lobos, a source told Sapadores do Funchal Fire. Department.
“The alarm was raised at 5:52 a.m. and we moved forward with four vehicles and 11 personnel,” the same source said, noting that the deceased was a man in his 40s, while a young woman, 23, was evacuated and taken to the Dr. Nelio Mendonça Hospital in Funchal.
The accident occurred inside a tunnel and it appears that the car driven by the man was heading towards Curral das Freiras – Funchal, while the other car, driven by a young woman, was heading towards Funchal – Curral das Freiras.
The relief operations also involved the Emergency Medical Unit (EMIR) and volunteer firefighters from Camara de Lobos, a municipality adjacent to Funchal to the west.
