A man with spastic cerebral palsy was forced to climb off an Air Canada plane after the airline did not provide him with a wheelchair so he could exit the plane.
According to The keeperRodney Hodgins, 49, lives in British Columbia, Canada, and is a tool salesman. The man, who requires a motorized wheelchair, traveled to Las Vegas with his wife Dina to celebrate their wedding anniversary in August.
Because of the short time between Rodney and Dina’s flight landing and another flight on the same plane taking off, a flight attendant told the couple it would be impossible to bring a wheelchair on board, Dina Hodgins wrote on Facebook.
The man was forced to drag himself between rows of seats while the woman held his legs.
In a Facebook post, Dina Hodgins said the incident left the couple devastated.
In a statement, the company acknowledged that the 49-year-old had not received adequate support.
“We use a third-party wheelchair assistance specialist in Las Vegas to ensure safe transportation to and from the aircraft,” the statement said. “Following our investigation into how this serious service disruption occurred, we will evaluate other mobility assistance partners in Las Vegas,” they add.
According to The Guardian, Rodney Hodigns claims that Air Canada offered him a voucher for two thousand Canadian dollars so that he could spend it on airline flights, but the man said that compensation “would not solve the problem.”
