The Civil Protection Service registered more than 40 incidents

Since 00:00 this Thursday, more than 40 incidents have been recorded, most of them in the Northern and Central regions, due to bad weather, according to information posted on the website of the National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC).

According to ANEPC, more than 40 incidents have been reported across the country, most of which involved falls from trees and buildings.

At 06:50 more than 120 operators were involved in various situations caused by high winds.

According to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA), mainland Portugal is experiencing the effects of the Ciarão Depression, with sometimes strong winds, rough seas and precipitation.

Due to bad weather, the IPMA has placed seven areas of mainland Portugal under a red warning level this Thursday and Friday due to the forecast of severe sea disturbances.

Porto, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga will be under a red warning from 09:00 today until 15:00 Friday due to the forecast of “northwest waves of significant height between 7 and 8 metres”. which could reach a maximum height of 14/15 meters.”

According to the IPMA, Faro, Setúbal and Beja will be under an orange warning from 3pm this Thursday until 12pm Saturday, also due to the forecast of heavy seas.

A red alert is the most severe on a scale of three (red, orange and yellow).

The areas of Leiria, Guarda, Santarem, Viana do Castelo, Coimbra, Castelo Branco will be under a yellow warning for rain, sometimes heavy, until 9am this Thursday.

Today, “winds are also expected to increase, which will blow strongly along the coast of the northern and central regions with gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour (kph), and in the highlands with gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour (kph). up to 110 km /h”, and at the highest points of the Serra da Estrela can even exceed this value.

IPMA has therefore issued a yellow warning for strong winds for today in the areas of Viseu, Bragança, Porto, Guarda, Vila Real, Santarem, Viana do Castelo, Lisbon, Leiria, Castelo Branco, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga.

In the Madeira region, the effect of the Ciarão Trench will be felt through increased sea waves, which from this period will come from the northwest with a significant height of four to five meters.
