About four teachers and health workers will be reinstated in the civil service in Guinea-Bissau, the government decided this Thursday, lifting the suspension of these specialists determined more than a year ago by the previous leader of Guinea.
The decision was made by the Council of Ministers, which decided to “instruct the Ministers of Economy and Finance, Public Administration, Labor and State Modernization, as well as National Education, Higher Education and Scientific Research to complete the process of reinstating the suspended teachers.”
Guinea’s Council of Ministers decided to “also instruct the Ministries of Economy and Finance, Public Administration, Labor and State Modernization and Public Health to reinstate suspended health officials from work as of January 2024.”
The measures were announced in a government statement by the Platform for Inclusive Alliance (PAI) and Terra Ranca coalition led by the African Party for the Independence of Guinea and Cape Verde (PAIGC).
The announcement, made by the executive within three months, reverses the previous government’s decision to abolish the civil service.
The September 2022 order was one of the reasons behind several strikes in both sectors and resulted in the dismissal of 2,800 teachers from civil service jobs for allegedly infiltrating illegally.
In the same order, the previous government of Guinea-Bissau ordered the suspension of health workers.
