A family has captured the moment their one-year-old daughter, diagnosed with achromatopsia, saw her parents and her surroundings clearly for the first time. The images were recorded at the end of October in the US state of Massachusetts.
Kaidan Ziemba was diagnosed with achromatopsia, a condition that causes children to be more sensitive to light and have difficulty seeing colors. Unlike color blindness, which prevents a person from seeing colors, achromatopsia can completely prevent a person from seeing colors other than black and white.
Michelle Ziemba, the child’s mother, shared on social media the moment her daughter put on special glasses that help people with the condition see colors clearly. The child began to laugh and try to jump.
“Kaidan surprises us every day with his expressiveness and the way he adapts,” reads Michelle Ziemba’s post.
Michelle, 31, and Eric, 32, realized that their three-month-old daughter was not responding to objects and people, and decided to see an ophthalmologist, who, after several procedures, diagnosed the child with achromatopsia.
