Two separate expert reports requested in two court cases indicate that former banker Ricardo Salgado suffers from Alzheimer’s disease. The information is provided by Expresso, according to which only experts can conclude whether Salgado will be able to stand trial in the EDP process and testify in a civil case related to the collection of fines. Both neurological examinations confirming doctor Ricardo Salgado’s diagnosis must be sent to the court by the end of the month.
One of the cases is being considered in the Cascais court, which has requested an expert opinion. This is a civil action to recover BdP fines for €700,000 worth of assets confiscated in the criminal case of Universo Espírito Santo. This examination, according to the weekly, has been completed, but the final report is missing. Its purpose is to determine whether the former BES president is competent to testify.
The second examination was carried out by the National Institute of Forensic Medicine and Forensic Medicine in Coimbra, at the request of the judge hearing the EDP case. Salgado is responsible for corruption crimes and money laundering. An assessment has yet to be carried out, but the examination is at an advanced stage. It will be used to assess whether he is fit to stand trial and serve a possible sentence.
TO CMSalgado’s defense claims that they do not know the results of the examinations.
