According to instructions from the Executive Directorate of the National Health Service (DE-SNS), emergency services will now give priority to the hospitalization and triage of patients transported in ambulances and referred by INEM.
In a note published this Saturday, which justifies the need to reorganize emergency services due to the refusal of many doctors to work overtime, DE-SNS warns of the possibility of “increased restrictions” in emergency situations and asks patients, in the event of an acute illness, to call the SNS24 line in advance ( 808 242 424).
In urgent or emergency situations, he said, they should call 112, which will forward the call to INEM.
“Given the limitations of the current situation, there may be further restrictions on access to emergency services, which will primarily affect less serious cases,” says DE-SNS.
Executive management says the unwillingness of a “significant number of physicians” to work overtime calls into question the current emergency services operating model, forcing a reorganization of the response to ensure access.
More than 2,500 doctors have already provided excuses for not working overtime beyond their required 150 hours a year.
In a note published this Saturday, DE-SNS acknowledges that the National Health Service is at a “critical period in its existence” and that it is monitoring the situation “with concern.”
The temporary reorganization determined by DE-SNS will be reviewed every week, which stipulates that until the 18th, more than 30 emergency situations of various specializations will operate with restrictions.
DE-SNS also states that primary care should be reorganized to provide periods of unscheduled care for acutely ill patients, especially those referred by SNS24, and that hospital health care should strengthen its response to cases of “acute exacerbations.” have already been observed in the relevant departments of the hospital, be it an unscheduled consultation, a day hospital or hospitalization at home.
