There were 38,827 people hospitalized as a result of emergency care, with the highest number of users in Northern Region wards (197,204). There were 175,652 emergencies in services in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley, 30 thousand fewer than in the same month in 2022 – which could be due to restrictions in several hospitals. By department, the Hospital of São João (Porto) has 22,894 emergency cases, followed by Amadora Sintra (17,880), Braga (17,774), Gaia (16,994) and Santa Maria in Lisbon (14,635). From January to October, almost 5.19 million emergencies occurred, 55 thousand more than in 2022 – that is, 185 more emergencies per day.
