The Minister for the Environment and Climate Action said this Monday that he has this place “always at the disposal of the Prime Minister” during parliamentary hearings on the 2024 state budget.
“I am part of the outgoing government. It is my duty as a public servant to participate until the already scheduled legislative elections result in the formation of a new executive,” Duarte Cordeiro said.
The government official reiterated that he is not accused of Operation Influencer, the result of an investigation into the lithium and hydrogen business. “We had searches in the ministry, we followed them and cooperated. We remain available for this,” he emphasized.
This Monday, at the same hearing, the Minister confirmed that the lithium projects of the lithium mines in Boticas and Montalegre in the district of Vila Real comply with the law.
To recap, Antonio Costa resigned on Tuesday after the ministry said the chief executive was the subject of an independent Supreme Court investigation. The President of the Republic, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, has called early legislative elections for March 10, 2024.
