A collision between two vehicles on supplementary route (IC) 2 in Pedreiras, municipality of Porto de Mos, killed one person this Friday and closed the road, sources from the National Republican Guard (GNR) and civil defense said.
According to GNR, an alert for the incident – a collision between a passenger car and a truck – was issued at 8:44 a.m., resulting in the death of a 64-year-old female driver of the car.
The accident also resulted in one minor injury, the driver of the heavy vehicle, which was taken to the Santo Andre Hospital in Leiria, commander of the Porto de Mox Volunteer Fire Department Elisio Pereira, told Lusa news agency.
The official said three vehicles – two ambulances and an evacuation vehicle – supported by 10 operatives from the Porto de Mos Corporation, as well as three vehicles from the National Institute of Emergency Medicine and two PPR vehicles, arrived at the scene.
The circumstances of the incident are being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department for Road Accidents of the Leiria Detachment and Traffic.
Traffic in the area was still blocked at 10:50 a.m.
