Fifty nurses gathered in front of the Ministry of Health building

About fifty nurses gathered in front of the Ministry of Health to demand equality between their careers and higher technical careers in public administration, accusing the government of a lack of political will.

Around 1:30 a.m., protesters began gathering on Lisbon’s João Crisostomo Avenue, raising the red and blue flags of the Portuguese Nurses Union (AKU), calling for a protest, and banners with slogans such as “parity yes, no discrimination.”

The banners make it clear that there are “Nurses Against Discrimination” as well as for better “pay, progress and equality.”

“Tired of injustice,” nurses are posting messages saying they are “demanding fair performance assessments. Evaluation with quotas is not required.”

The rally, under the slogan “The money is there, it’s possible, but the will is not,” involves dozens of people shouting slogans such as “Nurses are valuable for the development of social networks” or “Injustice persists and the AKP cannot give up.” “

The demonstration is supported by a PCP delegation led by party chairman Paulo Raimundo.

The AKP met a week ago with Health Ministry officials, but at the end of the meeting accused the authorities of a “clear lack of will” to solve the problems.

At the meeting, says the AKP, “little more came of it, the Ministry of Health only announced that instructions would finally be issued to eliminate the injustice arising from the non-calculation of points for nurses transferred to categories.” nurses and chief physician until 2010.”

According to the union, the ministry remains unable to agree on solutions and address other issues affecting nurses, such as ending precarious work contracts and pay parity between nursing careers and higher technical careers in public administration.
