Justice Department is investigating alleged favoritism toward twins being treated at Santa Maria Hospital

The Justice Department is investigating alleged favoritism between two Portuguese-Brazilian twins for access to the spinal muscular atrophy drug Zolgensma, the newspaper reported. Public. The Prosecutor General’s Office confirmed the start of an investigation this Friday.

Case reported TVI/CNN dates back to 2019. The treatment in question cost four million euros. The twins live in Brazil and receive medical care at the Santa Maria Hospital.

In accordance with TVI/CNN, there are suspicions of the involvement of the President of the Republic in access to treatment. Marcelo Rebelo de Souza publicly denied this fact.

On November 6, the General Directorate of Health began an investigation into this case.
