A 78-year-old man was seriously injured this Wednesday with first and second degree burns in a fire that broke out in the bedroom of the house where he lives in Ponte da Barca, a fire department source said.
Speaking to Lusa, Carlos Veloso, commander of the Ponte da Barca volunteer fire brigade in the Viana do Castelo region, said the man was taken to Prelada Hospital in Porto.
The person in charge said the “probable cause” of the fire was an oil heater found in the room, which was “completely destroyed.”
Carlos Veloso said that an elderly man lives alone in a house located next to the Main Church, in the center of Ponte da Barca.
The alarm came at 9:45.
19 first responders and seven vehicles of Ponte da Barca volunteer firefighters were present at the scene: an Alto Minho emergency medical vehicle (VMER) parked at the Santa Luzia hospital in Viana do Castelo, a Ponte da Barca immediate life support vehicle (SIV) de de Castelo. Lima and GNR.
