The leader of the Communist Party of Portugal (PCP), Paulo Raimundo, has sharply criticized the Socialist Party (PS) government and called for a vote for the Unitary Democratic Coalition (CDU) in the next legislative elections, scheduled for March 10, 2024.
At a lunch meeting in Alpiars, Santarem district, Paulo Raimundo accused the Socialist Party of refusing to respond with an absolute majority to “the concrete problems of the workers and the Portuguese people” and of rejecting the PCP’s proposals for the Santarem region. , such as the construction of the IC3 section, the improvement of public rail transport and the re-qualification of the facilities of the Santarem District Office of PSP.”
“A year ago, we identified several problems that urgently needed to be dealt with here in the region. We submitted several proposals to the state budget, and the PS said no to each of them,” he accused.
The General Secretary of the PKP said that the elections are an opportunity to strengthen the PKP and the CDU, and expressed confidence that more deputies will be elected.
“We will grow, we will have more votes, we will have more deputies,” he said.
The communist leader said that the CDU will grow against the will of the polls, “which failed in Madeira, where the CDU had more votes and a higher percentage,” and against the will of those who do not want to “discuss the content.” proposals and solutions.”
In a packed pavilion dedicated to a speech by the PCP general secretary, Raimundo denounced the “serious social situation” that affects workers and the Portuguese people, as well as specific problems of the Santarem region, such as “the lack of support for farmers, the shortage of health workers and delays in the railway sector.”
Paulo Raimundo argued that voting for the right represents a “movement backwards,” that voting for the PS “is an illusion,” and that “the correct, useful and necessary vote is a vote for the CDU.”
“It is necessary to give votes to those representatives of the CDU who will bring changes in service to workers, in contrast to others who are nothing more than emissaries of the interests of banking and economic groups,” he added.
The PKP general secretary also said that the workers’ votes are worth as much as the votes of the owners of GALP, Pingo Doce, CTT, but they could be worth even more “if they were not put in the same bag with those who think they are the owners of all this “
Paulo Raimundo concluded his speech with a message of solidarity with the Palestinian people and demanded a ceasefire, an end to the war, implementation of United Nations resolutions and the creation of a Palestinian state.
“The PKP is on the side of Palestine, which will win, as will millions and millions around the world, including in Israel,” he concluded.
