Cold and dry weather will return to the continent on Wednesday, with minimum temperatures expected to fall between 5 to 8 degrees Celsius and 3 to 6 degrees Celsius, meteorologist Bruno Cafe said.
A meteorologist from the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA) told Lusa on Tuesday that the weather would change on Wednesday after several days of above-average temperatures due to an anticyclone located north of the Iberian Peninsula.
“Tomorrow [quarta-feira] we will have a more general decline as temperatures fall. In most of the territory, the minimum temperature will drop by 5-8 degrees, the maximum by 3-6 degrees. We will experience increased thermal discomfort due to increased wind strength,” he said.
Snowfall is also possible at altitudes above 1,200 and 1,400 meters on Wednesday, the meteorologist said.
“Wednesday will be the day we notice the temperature drop the most because we have had above average temperatures for December,” he said.
On Thursday, according to Bruno Café, the low will drop again, with some changes the next day, but no dramatic changes.
“There will be cold and dry days with some clouds. These are average temperatures for December,” he said.
According to Bruno Café, periods of rain are still expected on Tuesday due to the passage of a cold frontal surface, mainly on the north coast, moving from north to south.
“Most of the rainfall will fall in the north and central areas and then turn into showers,” he said.
The IPMA has issued a yellow warning for Viana do Castelo and Braga until 12:00 on Tuesday due to the forecast of persistent, temporarily heavy rain.
