Cod in smaller quantities and more expensive to produce could dictate higher prices in 2024

The price of cod is not expected to fall next year, which will see fewer of the fish available, and production prices are likely to be higher than in 2023, the Cod Industry Association told Lusa.

“In October this year, the joint Norwegian-Russian fisheries commission agreed that cod quotas for 2024 in the Barents and Norwegian seas amount to 453,427 tons. This is 20% less than this year’s volumes, which again fell by 20% in relation to the catches agreed for 2022,” the Industrial Association of Bacalhau (AIB) noted in response to Lusa.

With fewer raw materials available, which is “highly likely”, the cost of raw materials will rise sharply and will also be under pressure from deteriorating costs of other inputs.
