A 56-year-old man, angry about dividing up a family inheritance, killed three family members and wounded four others during a Christmas dinner in the town of Maringa in the Brazilian state of Parana. The shooter, identified by police as Dario Jorge Kodama, committed suicide shortly after killing his family.
Dario, according to information provided by Maringa police, on Sunday evening quietly entered the grounds of his sister’s home, where 10 family members had gathered for Christmas dinner, locked the gate and, wearing gloves and a mask, entered the house. The residence is already shooting. The sister and two other family members died on the spot, while four others were injured as a result of bullets hitting various parts of the body at close range.
A 16-year-old and a 26-year-old were shot in the neck and chest, another young woman was shot throughout her body, a fourth victim was shot in one of her legs, and the others managed to flee or take cover. Three wounded people, hit by multiple shells, remained hospitalized this Monday at the Maringa medical center, while the one wounded in the leg has already been discharged.
According to the police, the shooter’s plan, who did not accept the division of the family inheritance, was to kill everyone present, so much so that he unloaded all the ammunition from a powerful 9-mm pistol and loaded it again. In the neighboring houses, almost everyone heard the gunshots, but they didn’t care because they sounded like rockets, similar to those that the residents of the street went to celebrate Christmas, realizing the tragedy only when the survivors began screaming for help.
