The Navegante public transport pass will become free in January for all students under 23 years of age and can be topped up starting on Tuesday, Transports Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML) said.
The Navegante pass, which allows travel within the Lisbon Metropolitan Region (AML), has until now been free for young students living in the capital as part of a city council measure.
According to TML, current Navegante pass holders 4_18 or under 23 years of age will need to top up their monthly pass as was the case, and they can do so from this Tuesday, “but this time at no cost to users.”
“This loading is now available throughout the existing network of transport operators in the Lisbon metropolitan area and in the Navegante Payshop network,” the carrier’s note can be read.
TML has already announced that the price of Navegante passes will remain in 2024.
The company emphasized that since its creation on April 1, 2019, Navegante, which can be used in all public service companies providing regular passenger services in the 18 municipalities of AML, has not undergone price changes in 2024.
As envisaged in the 2024 State Budget report, this price freeze will allow journeys of all transport operators to continue next year, with Navegante paying the usual prices: 30 euros for municipal Navegante (trips within the municipality only) and 40 euros. for the capital city of Navegante (in 18 AML municipalities).
The discounts provided for the Navegante and +65 family names also remain in force, with the Navegante 12 remaining free.
According to the decision of the Lisbon agglomeration, the periodic tariffs in force for Carris Metropolitana (road services) will not change next year, maintaining the value in force on the date of its implementation in June 2022.
