The Church calls on parties to put forward concrete proposals so that voters do not vote out of anger

Portugal’s Conference of Episcopal Bishops (CEP) this Saturday called on political parties to present “concrete and clear proposals” for the next elections to prevent voters from voting out of anger or disappointment.

“The upcoming elections require strong proposals and clear programmatic content so that projects can be discussed at the national level and solutions can be proposed. Only in this way can citizens be persuaded to make a choice in favor of specific projects, rather than voting out of anger, disappointment, or even worse, not voting,” says the New Year’s message published by the CEP today.

In its message, the CEP recalls that 2023 “was replete with political, social and economic crises”, with particular impact on the areas of health, education and housing, and that next year voters will be invited to the polls to vote in the Legislative Elections bodies of the European Parliament and the Autonomous Region of the Azores.
