The Public Security Police (PSP) detained 339 people between Friday and Monday during Operation Safe Parties, which coincided with New Year’s Day 2024, reflecting 176 arrests for road crimes.
According to a statement issued by security forces today, 106 people were arrested for drunk driving and the remaining 70 did not have a valid driver’s license.
The PSP also recorded 45 arrests on suspicion of drug trafficking and the seizure of at least 6,706 individual doses, as well as a further 23 arrests for property crimes (theft, robbery and fraud) and 12 arrests for possession of prohibited weapons.
During this period, the PSP Traffic Enforcement Service also checked 7,672 drivers across the country and monitored 14,845 vehicles using radar, of which 149 were recorded speeding.
1,315 administrative offenses were registered, including 105 for lack of mandatory periodic technical inspection, 79 for drunk driving, 44 for lack of insurance and 20 for using a mobile phone while driving.
During these four days, 423 accidents occurred in the PSP area of responsibility. There were no fatalities, but this number resulted in 119 minor injuries and seven serious injuries.
In the note, PSP also urged drivers to practice safe driving, warning against the risks of speeding, drinking alcohol and using mobile phones.
