A strike by Infraestruturas de Portugal (IP) workers this Wednesday is expected to cause significant disruption to train services across the country, CP – Comboios de Portugal said.
“We inform you that due to the strike called by the trade unions representing workers of the company IP – Infraestruturas de Portugal, responsible for managing the railway infrastructure, significant disruptions to train services throughout the country are expected on January 10, 2024,” you can read the CoP Note.
The company said the strike could also impact its services sector on Thursday.
CP added that a minimum volume of services has been defined, with the exception of the Cascais line, “where the majority of services are expected to be carried out.”
The company guarantees that customers who already have purchased tickets for travel on trains of the Alfa Pendular, Intercidades, Internacional, InterRegional and Regional lines “will be given the opportunity to return the full cost of the purchased ticket or exchange it free of charge for another train. the same category and the same class.”
The strike is related to working conditions and wages in the profession and covers workers, command, control, information, traffic control and railway maintenance workers.
Intellectual property workers have already completed a two-day strike this year.
On the last day of the strike, January 4, from 0:00 to 19:00, 781 trains out of 1088 planned (71.8%) were suppressed, and on January 2 – 798 trains out of planned. CP estimates there were 1,086 in total, with only minimal services completed before 7 p.m.
