An elderly woman in her 90s was seriously injured this Monday in a fire that was still burning at 7:00 a.m. in São Cosme, Gondomar, in the Porto region, a source from the Volunteer Firefighters told Lusa. The victim, inhaled by smoke and received burns, was taken out of the room by the operatives.
“The seriously wounded man was taken to the Santo António hospital in Porto. The two-story building was evacuated,” said the same Gondomar volunteer firefighter source.
A source from the Porto Metropolitan Area Sub-Regional Command previously told Lusa that the fire had broken out on the second floor of the building, but there were still no details of the fire around 6:50 am.
By 08:00, the fire was already under control and was at the stage of liquidation of consequences. Six people have been displaced and have already been resettled with relatives.
The fire warning for Rua 25 de Abril, in the districts of União de Gondomar (São Cosme), Valbom and Jovim, in the municipality of Gondomar, was issued at 5:20 am.
At 08:04, 28 operatives were on the scene, supported by 13 ground units.
