Maria de Fatima’s body remained in the morgue for 13 days because PSP did not want to disturb the family.

The body of Maria de Fátima Araújo, who disappeared in Lisbon at the end of November, remained in the Cascais morgue for 13 days while the family was still searching. The body was found in a deserted, inaccessible area, “severely decomposed and covered in mud,” he says. CM member of Fatima’s family.

PSP confirmed CM that there were documents on the body, but because it was unrecognizable and “it was not certain that the documents were his,” he did not want to “cause concern and alarm” to the family. He decided to transfer the case to the Office of the Public Prosecutor (MP) of Oeiras and wait for the trial. 13 days have passed. The nephew says the SP believes there is no evidence of a crime, but the family does not believe Maria de Fatima died of natural causes and is asking for a second autopsy. “We need to rest, we need to mourn my sister. At the site where the body was found, family members collected the woman’s belongings, which they believed had been neglected by authorities.

The 62-year-old woman was last seen on November 23 in the Saldanha area. She lived with her husband, who has mental problems and whom she cared for for several years.
