On February 24, the Penafiel Court will start trying a man accused of two crimes of qualified murder, one of which was an assassination attempt that took place in May 2022 in Gandre, Paredes, in the Porto region.
According to the information published on Monday on the website of the Porto District Prosecutor’s Office, in addition to the specified crimes, the suspect in pre-trial detention will be liable for the offenses of possession of prohibited weapons and aggravated theft, in the form of attempt, according to the Prosecution of the Prosecutor’s Office (MP) .
The MP considered it “sufficiently charged that on May 29, 2022, at about 4:00 am, the 17-year-old accused, in the company of other colleagues, went to a nightclub” in Gandre, municipality of Paredes, “taking with him a loaded firearm, for which he did not have the necessary license to use and carry weapons.”
At the scene, the MP claims, the defendant pointed a gun at the head of a young man who had his back to him and fired at close range, hitting him in the head, resulting in his death.
The suspect then fired another shot at the second young man, hitting him in the chest, inflicting injuries that forced him to be hospitalized, according to the Porto District Attorney’s Office.
The suspect began to run away on foot and on the public road forced the driver to stop his car, aiming a firearm at the victim, who, however, managed to escape at the scene.
