Lionel Messi was named the best player in the world for the eighth time. But this time he completely ignored the FIFA award, further contributing to the growing devaluation of the Best of Gala.
Until the end of Tuesday, the Argentine player had not posted any public thanks on social networks (or other communication platforms) for yet another individual trophy. Only the wife of the 36-year-old player, Antonela Roccuzzo, hinted at another trophy. Messi’s indifference was clearly visible at The Best awards ceremony in London on Monday. He did not attend the event (nor did the other two candidates, Haaland and Mbappe). He also didn’t make a thank you video, which often happens at these ceremonies when there are no winners.
Journalist Guilhem Balag, the author of the official biography of the star, said that Messi is in pre-season training at Inter Miami and does not want to lose “three or four days” of training for a trip to London. The Best Award ceremony was widely criticized (and even ridiculed) by the international press, which does not understand Messi’s award.
