A Brazilian passenger was detained at Sa Carneiro airport in Porto with 14,200 kilograms of cocaine hidden in her suitcase, the Tax and Customs Authority said in a statement on Friday.
In accordance with current legislation, the passenger carrying the cocaine “was arrested and the drug seized by the AT was handed over to the Judicial Police as the police authority responsible for investigating criminal cases of drug trafficking,” the press release added.
In the release, the agency clarified that the drug detection was carried out by customs officers “using inspection and control methods developed by AT to strengthen the ability to carry out its mission in relation to the fight against illegal practices, the protection of society and public health.”
Faced with the need to control the supply chain, the statement further said, Customs uses risk management to implement effective and efficient controls, prevent undue disruption of legitimate travelers and utilize resources efficiently.
