The HDZ considers it possible to reach a consensus in the executive branch of the Porto City Council regarding the abolition of tolls on motorway (A) 41 and the adoption of emergency measures on Via de Cintura Interna, Rui Sa Lusa reported this Saturday.
According to the person in charge of the CDU municipal group, who convened an extraordinary municipal meeting on Monday to review mobility in Porto, the idea is to “think seriously about the problems of mobility in the city, promoting the adoption of measures that contribute to its improvement.”
When asked by Lusa whether he sees it possible to reach a consensus with the executive headed by the independent Rui Moreira, Rui Sa answered in the affirmative, indicating those who, apparently, can be reached most quickly.
“I believe there are things that consensus can be reached on, for example (…) the abolition of tolls on the A41, the use of emergency facilities on the inner ring road (VCI) in case of accidents or incidents,” he began with reply to the former PCP councilor in the municipality of Porto.
In the same vein, Rui Sa also said that “there are conditions to propose to consider extending the free travel for people over 65 years of age in STCP.” [Sociedade de Transportes Coletivos do Porto] for example, an agreement to create a committee to monitor the municipal assembly over the various works planned for the metro and high-speed trains.”
Here, however, he emphasized: “when we talk about the metro, we are not only talking about the Rubi line, but also about the Maia II, Gondomar II and Estádio do Mar line projects. [em Matosinhos] before IPO [Instituto Português de Oncologia, no Porto]”.
In a 13-point document presented this Saturday at a press conference, the CDU diagnosed the mobility situation in Porto, where it insists on “improving public transport” in a city with “chaotic traffic”.
Pointing out errors in the three major investments being carried out: the Pink Line should come to Campo Alegre before connecting with the Casa da Música, a bridge over the Douro on the Rubi Line should be built downstream of the solution found, and a metro bus should pass through the Campo Axis Alegre/Diogo Botelho (in metro format and never via Avenida Mareshal Gomes da Costa), the CDU considers it necessary to monitor the solutions recommended for its urban placement.
A solution that also wants to be seen at the high-speed train level “is not only the Campanhão station, but also the way of crossing the Douro – and in particular the way of mooring the roadway – and the exit from the Walk to the North,” the document says.
Reclassification of the Estrada da Circunvalação (Estrada Nacional 12) and the use of the Maria Pia Bridge as a transport facility, duplication of the railway lines between Ermesinde and Contumil, condition for increasing the frequency and speed of several suburban services. also part of the issues that will be discussed at the municipal meeting.
At the press conference, councilor Ilda Figueiredo also noted the start of the restoration of 19 dilapidated houses in the Sidonio Pais area of Porto, which “the HDZ has claimed since 2018.”
“These council houses, which were dilapidated and therefore uninhabitable, are already being restored, but we want to warn about the dissatisfaction of some residents who, due to the characteristics of the houses and the necessary work, saw that their houses were left without repair. roof and suffered from intrusion due to rain,” said a coalition adviser.
