This Saturday, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) issued yellow warnings for rough seas in 10 coastal areas of the continent from Monday afternoon until the next morning, with waves up to 4.5 meters high.
According to the IPMA, a yellow sea warning is in effect from 15:00 Monday until 9:00 Tuesday in the districts of Aveiro, Braga, Coimbra, Leiria, Lisbon, Porto and Viana do Castelo due to the forecast of “northwest waves with strong waves.” a significant height of four to 4.5 meters and a peak period exceeding 15 seconds.”
The IPMA has also issued a yellow sea warning, valid from 00:00 to 09:00 Wednesday, for the district of Faro due to the forecast of “on the west coast of waves from the north-west with a significant height of four meters and a peak period of more than 15 seconds”, and for Beja and Setubal, “northwest waves with a significant height of four meters and a peak period of more than 15 seconds.”
IPMA also placed the islands in the western group of the Azores (Flores and Corvo) under a yellow warning level, also due to disturbances at sea, from 06:00 Sunday until 00:00 Monday.
A yellow warning, the least severe on a scale of three, is issued whenever a risk situation arises for certain activities due to weather conditions.
