PS The Political Committee will approve socialist lists of candidates for deputies on Tuesday

The PS political committee meets on Tuesday evening to approve the final list of parliamentary candidates for the next legislative elections. This meeting will precede the meeting of the Secretariat, the governing body.

At a meeting of the National PS Secretariat later in the afternoon, the party’s leadership will analyze the main problems in the process of preparing lists competing for various constituencies and then present a final proposal to the National Political Commission.

According to the PS’s charter, Secretary General Pedro Nuno Santos must nominate a third of the total number of seats, while the remaining two-thirds are the responsibility of the federal political commissions in each electoral district.

Socialist Party General Secretary Pedro Nuno Santos will once again lead the list in the Aveiro district, while Alexandra Leitan, who coordinates the Socialists’ electoral program, will also reprise the role of “number one” in Santarem.

At the moment, the main news is the election of the Presidential Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva, who will head the list in the Lisbon constituency where António Costa has been “number one” since 2015, and the President of the Economic and Social Council, Francisco Assis, who will head the list for Porto.

As happened in the 2022 legislative elections, Ana Catarina Mendes again tops the list for Setubal, the same thing happened with Francisco Cesar in the Azores.

In Porto it is known that the Federation’s first candidate for this structure is João Torres, member of the National Secretariat and future director of the PS campaign, who should take the second position in this district.

In Lisbon, the list headed by Mariana Vieira da Silva has former Secretary of State and President of the Parliamentary Defense Committee Marcos Perestrello in second place, and Finance Minister Fernando Medina in third place.
