Two men, aged 25 and 36, have been identified and charged in Leiria with pretending to steal a high-powered motorcycle, PSP reported this Friday.
In a statement, PSP said the two men worked together to stage the theft of a high-powered motorcycle as well as various motorcycle equipment.
The motorcycle alone will be valued at more than 25 thousand euros, added the police, who found that the owner sold the car to his accomplice for an amount much less than the commercial value of the motorcycle.
The agreement provided that the buyer should pick it up at a pre-agreed day, time and place so that he could later claim to the authorities that the goods had been taken from him.
Subsequently, after filing a formal complaint with the PSP, the owner of the motorcycle “filed a claim with his insurance company to recover damages of which he was allegedly a victim.”
As a result, the suspects were “charged with simulating a crime, fraud (insurance), and forgery of documents.”
The motorcycle was confiscated following a search of the house of one of the accused, where two bicycles worth approximately four thousand euros, “stolen as part of another investigation also carried out by the Leiria Criminal Investigation Unit”, as well as “other purposes of identical evidentiary interest” were also found and confiscated. .
Meanwhile, also this Friday, the PSP’s Leiria District Command reported that 108 weapons, mainly firearms and bladed weapons, were confiscated during 2023.
This number represents a 34% increase over 2022, representing 31 more guns confiscated.
The PSP added that between 2019 and 2023, 485 weapons of all classes were seized for various reasons. In 2023, the PSP handed over 1,516 weapons for destruction.
