Medicines with a retail price of up to ten euros could rise by 3.5% in 2024, according to the decree on the annual price review, published this Friday in the Diário da República and coming into force on Saturday.
The regulation sets out the reference countries that will be considered in 2024 for the approval of prices for new medicines and for the purposes of the annual review of prices for medicines purchased by the National Health Service and medicines dispensed on the outpatient market, and for maintaining for this year the exclusive criteria that will be applied in the price revision regime.
Regarding the maximum price of drugs in the outpatient market in 2024, the resolution states that, given the current national and international economic situation, exceptional criteria are being introduced to allow higher drug prices at a lower public sale price (PVP). or equal to 10 euros to “avoid lowering drug prices.”
