On Tuesday, the Directorate General of Health (DGS) confirmed a new case of measles in the Northern region: a 29-year-old man who is clinically stable and linked to another previously identified case.
Since January 11, seven cases of measles have been confirmed: two in Lisbon and the Tagus Valley region and five in the Northern region, the health authority said in a statement.
The 29-year-old man is “clinically healthy and has emerged from the infectious period” as it is “a secondary case to a previously identified case.”
The DGS added that these cases were laboratory confirmed by Dutor Ricardo Jorge National Institute of Health (INSA).
On February 1, the DSS announced the detection of three new cases of measles in the Northern region, which added to the three previously identified.
“The GDS and the network of health authorities, in collaboration with INSA and health professionals, are monitoring the development of the situation in accordance with the provisions of the National Measles Elimination Programme, focusing on the confirmation of suspected cases and contact tracing,” the Minister of Health said. the statement says.
