Farmers’ protest forces the cutting of the junction with the A4 and IP2 motorways in Macedo de Cavaleiros.

The A4 highway between the Lamas and Amendoeira intersections is closed in both directions and dozens of farmers are demanding assurances that support for 2023 will be paid this month, one of the protest organizers said on Thursday.

“We have closed A4 and until we receive a concrete answer, we will not leave here. We will only leave here if we have a concrete answer. We want it. [referindo-se à ministra da Agricultura, Maria do Céu Antunes] state in writing and clearly emphasize that support for 2023 will be paid by the end of February,” said Luis Reis from the organization of this protest. The farmers effectively demobilized after Minister Maria do Ceu Antunes agreed to meet with the organization. at 12:00 this Thursday.

Luis Reis, a cattle producer, rejected the possibility of paying child support “only in June,” a date he said appears in custody communications.

“Today we want [esta quinta-feira] It must be clarified that payments must be made in February,” he emphasized.

According to Luis Reis, who is waiting for hundreds of farmers to arrive at the protest site, many people “in a very difficult situation are already asking for loans” to survive on a daily basis.

“There are many of us, and they owe us a lot of money. We owe a lot of people. There are those who take out loans. If the minister gives lines of credit, then let her make payments,” he concluded.

The protest, which began early in the morning, has already led to the closure of the A4 motorway in both directions between the Lama and Amendoeira interchanges in the Bragança region.

An alternative to driving is the national roads, namely EN15.

Farmers placed tractors and farm equipment on the road, and a network of fences was torn down.

A GNR source told Lusa that some people have already been identified.

The slow marches marking the morning in the Bragança region take place at the intersection of the IC5 and IP2 highways between Macedo de Cavaleiros and Carrazeda de Anciaínes.

The organization estimates that around 300 farmers from Macedo de Cavaleiros, Mirandela, Alfandega da Fe, Vimioso, Bragança, Vinhaes, Mogadoro and Valpazos are concentrated in the Vila Real area at various protest points.
