The government passes decisions on VCI in the Porto to the next leader

The current government has handed over the decisions on the reorganization of the Via de Cintura Interna (VCI) traffic to the next leader after confirming that the mayor of Porto claimed that the conditions for their adoption had been met.

“The President of the City Council of Porto believes that the conditions have been created to move forward with changes to the VCI and has informally informed the Under Secretary of State and Infrastructures about this. However, the decision to implement or abandon the above measures must be taken by the next government,” can be read in the response of the Secretary of State for Infrastructure Luse.

Lusa asked the office headed by Frederico Francisco the position of Porto Mayor Rui Moreira, reported by Porto Canal on Monday, in which he expressed his “even conviction” that changes will be made this time.

The working group, created in 2020, proposed 27 measures in three thematic areas: toll management, infrastructure improvement and management.

The working group proposed scenario G, which included a reduction in tariffs at the last southern gateway of the A28, the introduction of a new gateway on the A28, south of the junction with the A41, and the removal of two existing gateways. on the western section of the A4 motorway and the introduction of a new portal between the A4 (east) and A3 (southern section).

On January 22, the independent mayor demanded the implementation of measures to remove heavy loads from Via de Cintura Interna (VCI), agreed by the working group in 2020, holding the government and Matosinhos responsible for the failure to implement.

On the same day, the Matosinhos Chamber said that structural changes in the traffic scenario in the region will only come with the introduction of public transport, after Rui Moreira gave the municipality responsibility for traffic on the Via de Cintura Interna (VCI).

However, the municipality, led by Luisa Salgueiro (PS), said it agreed with the so-called Scenario G, which prompted Rui Moreiro to inform the Secretary of State that, in his opinion, the conditions for moving forward with the project had been met, according to the Porto Canal.

On the same day, at the municipal assembly, the Aqui Há Porto! movement, which supports Rui Moreiro, also presented a proposal, which was approved, in which it called on the government to exempt, for a trial period of one year, tolls on the A41 motorway. CREPE.

The proposal also calls on the Under Secretary of State for Infrastructure to apply VCI toll rates “to all traffic flow through the intersection” except “that which begins and ends in the city of Porto.”
