Eleven areas of mainland Portugal will be under a yellow warning this Friday due to a forecast of “occasionally heavy” rain, according to the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA).
Porto, Aveiro, Braga and Viana do Castelo will be under a yellow warning for a longer period, from 6am to 6pm this Friday.
The alert for Viseu, Vila Real, Leiria and Coimbra is in effect from 06:00 to 15:00, and for Braganca, Guarda and Castelo Branco from 09:00 to 15:00.
The areas of Porto, Faro, Setúbal, Lisbon, Leiria, Beja, Coimbra and Aveiro will be under a yellow warning for wind this Friday from 10:00 to 18:00, with the exception of Faro, which will last until 21:00.
Due to disturbances at sea from Friday to Saturday, Setubal (from 15:00 Friday to 10:00 Saturday), as well as Beja and Lisbon (from 15:00 Friday to 3:00 Saturday) will be under an orange warning.
In Porto, Faro, Viana do Castelo, Beja, Aveiro, Coimbra and Braga, the orange alert for rough seas is in effect from 15:00 to 00:00 on Saturday, with the exception of Faro, which ends at 03:00 in Saturday. .
The National Emergency Management and Civil Protection Authority (ANEPC) on Wednesday warned the public of the risk of flooding due to rain forecast in the next 48 hours.
Floods can occur in urban areas, floods, landslides and landslides, accidents on the coast due to rough seas and groundwater levels or ice accumulation on roads.
Given the forecasts, Civil Defense recommends appropriate behavior and basic preventive measures, “especially in historically more vulnerable areas.”
